Darksister - House of the Dragon

Darksister, one of the two Valyrian steel swords owned by House Targaryen and seen HBO's in House of the Dragon. This project took me about 2 weeks. I collected as many up close shots from the show and behind the scenes episodes as possible to faithfully recreate this sword.

Dark sister has several underlying motifs, the most notable being the dragon egg pommel and the dragon scales that adorn the guard. These were both particularly challenging from a 3D perspective. For the egg pommel I created a tileable scale alpha in Substance designer and applied it to the geometry I had in Zbrush. The scales that are on the guard of the sword were placed manually and baked into the texture. The remainder of the sword was done in blender using hard surface modeling practices.

Overall I am very happy with the end result and look forward to starting work on Blackfyre, the other Targaryen sword.
